RAQUEL PEREZ LOZANO

Originally from the island of Menorca in Spain, I moved away from my birth place over 20 years ago.

Prior to re-training as a counsellor, my professional background was in law. As a Spanish qualified lawyer, I specialised in human rights as have always been deeply drawn by the sense of justice, people, and contributing to create a better world. This experience informs my current work with clients who are in high-pressure working environments, those at a turning point in their career and life or those who live under constant psychological threats, as is the case of human rights defenders.

Throughout my live, I have also had a passion for dance /movement and body awareness, which has given me an appreciation of the interconnectivity between body and mind in supporting overall well-being. This experience has given me a better understanding of how, in my view, knowledge is rooted in lived experience and how problems can arise when emotions or the physical felt sense is blocked or ignored.

After going through what I feel was a life changing experience of becoming a mother for the first time, I realised how I had always been more interested in the emotional and psychological part of everything that I had done. So, I decided to fully embark myself on the journey to become a qualified Person-Centred counsellor to pursue my passion in life.

As a counsellor I have experienced working with clients who are in a period of personal development, or going through a crisis, vulnerability or distress. I particularly assist clients suffering from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic disorder, childhood traumas, issues with low self-esteem and self-acceptance who are disconnected from their true self or have suffered from different forms of abuse.

I am open to all kinds of backgrounds as I celebrate difference and I have held space for clients from all backgrounds and walks of life.
